You may have sensed my despair at some popular instructional practices (a/k/a teacher and child abuse), but I am not yet prostrate with grief. We are working behind the scenes here to organize an upbeat, informative, even exciting conference.

The 46th Everyone Reading Conference on Dyslexia and Related Learning Disabilities will take place March 4 and 5, 2019 at the CUNY Graduate Center on Fifth Avenue at 34th Street.

Chancellor Richard Carranza will be the March 4 keynote speaker. Akimi Gibson from Sesame Workshop will keynote on March 5. Esther Klein Friedman, New York City Department of Education Executive Director for Literacy and Academic Intervention Services and former Everyone Reading board member, will be our honoree. Esther is of the quaint persuasion that all kids can and should learn to read, and that all schools can and should be able to teach them. She has devoted her life and career to making that happen.

We will also have twenty-five exhibitors and about 70 breakout sessions, ranging from neuroscience through phonological awareness and everything in between.

Like Macy’s, we have a sale a minute. We have special rates for early birds, groups, students and CUNY students and faculty. Because of the NYCDOE’s elephantine negotiating power, we also have a very special rate for NYCDOE employees. This rate may only be obtained through payment with a NYCDOE purchase order. I have attached instructions for doing just that.

Don’t wait for the conference to learn nifty strategies for teaching reading and developing oral language. Take one of the workshops below in the meantime.

DID I MENTION THAT EVERY MINUTE YOU SPEND WITH US QUALIFIES FOR NEW YORK STATE EDUCATION DEPARTMENT CTLE (CONTINUING TEACHER AND LEADER EDUCATION) HOURS?
