Saint Theresa Would Be Proud

Author: Lavinia Mancuso
November 16, 2018

New York City children are getting more saintly by the minute. Everywhere I go, they are having visions. They are envisioning what will happen next in the story, what happened, what didn’t happen, what should have happened, and what might have happened if what did happen didn’t happen.

They are also levitating right out of their seats to the bathroom or to get a drink, a snack or a tissue. The pop on and off the rug to avoid pinching or being pinched.

We should really capitalize on these gifts. The Guggenheim Museum is selling Ouija boards. I recommend one for every classroom.

Nothing that exciting happens at Everyone Reading, Inc. Aside from trying to envision our next summer funder, we are pretty unimaginative. So are our workshops. Join us if you want some earthbound strategies for effective teaching.

We also make big mistakes here. I left out one of our honoree’s major areas of responsibility: library services. Esther Klein Friedman is Executive Director of Literacy, Academic Intervention Services and Library Services.

DID I MENTION THAT EVERY MINUTE YOU SPEND WITH US QUALIFIES FOR NEW YORK STATE EDUCATION DEPARTMENT CTLE (CONTINUING TEACHER AND LEADER EDUCATION) HOURS?
